1.0 FTE / 35 hours per week; Grade 7, £37,099.00 - £41,732.00
Who we’re looking for:
We are looking for a Lecturer in Primary Education with a background in English to join the Marjon team predominantly working on primary undergraduate and postgraduate routes into teaching.
We would be particularly interested in those that could offer the following:
What you’d be doing:
You will have significant recent experience of teaching in schools and/or in a teacher educator role in a university or School led system. You will hold QTS, with the ability to teach on a variety of primary modules at undergraduate and postgraduate level. You will have a considerable amount of interaction with schools, trainees, tutorial input and wider contribution to the activities within the relevant programmes and the school. The role will involve contribution to recruitment events. Marjon academics are strongly engaged in research or knowledge exchange activities and those entering the team would be expected to contribute to this area of work.
You’ll need to enjoy:
Collaborating with others, leading small groups, thinking creatively, communicating with others (in person, over the phone or by email), engaging with technology, providing excellent trainee support and quickly building rapport with colleagues/students.
Where you’ll work:
In this role, you’ll be based in the Marjon Teacher Education Partnership team, on our green campus in the north of Plymouth.
Our current hybrid working policy means you can work from home or on campus, but you will need to maintain strong campus links and be available on-site when needed.
For an informal discussion about the role please contact Professor Gary Kinchin, Dean of the School of Education, on gkinchin@marjon.ac.uk or Jodie Greaves, MTEP Partnership Leader, on jgreaves@marjon.ac.uk
Supporting our people:
At Marjon, we are firmly committed to supporting every member of staff who works for us. Our Balance programme of health and wellbeing activities aims to help you to look after your physical health, nutritional health, mental health and social health.
We recognise that our recruitment might bring in staff who are new to higher education and are bringing knowledge and expertise from other fields and practice. We want to ensure that all our academic staff are appropriately qualified to teach in HE and have the confidence to do so; to support this, we offer a Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice (PGCAP) to all new teaching staff without an existing teaching qualification. This provides our new staff with an opportunity to develop their understanding and practice of learning, teaching and pedagogic research/research management in higher education and enables us to maintain our high standards of teaching.
We’re big believers in the importance of work/life balance. Many of our employees work flexibly and they are able to apply for parental leave and time off for dependants. As well as this, Academic staff enjoy 35 days’ holiday, plus Christmas closure days and eight bank holidays. This equates to 45 (full-time equivalent) days. We are keen to hear from a diverse range of applicants to support our goal to realise every individual’s potential. We are a ‘Disability Confident Employer’: candidates who declare a disability and who demonstrate on their application that they meet the essential criteria will be included on the shortlist.
